Hi,I rode mine with cover removed until I converted filter to foam. It ran great but had to put cover back once i went to foam ,was too lean and would stumble on acceleration.As long as your running the stock filter it will be fine,but it will get dirty and is expensive ,whereas foam is cleanable and cheaper than dirt,ride hard giro.
